A continuous battle between Russia and Ukraine called the Russian-Ukrainian War started in 2014. While most of the combat has occurred inside Ukrainian territory, several nations have been involved in the conflict to varied degrees.

Russia and Ukraine are the only countries that have directly intervened militarily in the conflict. However, a number of other nations have contributed in a number of different ways, such as by giving military assistance or support to one side or the other, enacting economic sanctions against Russia, or taking part in diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.

As of 2023, it is difficult to provide an exact number of countries that are involved in the conflict, as the situation is complex and constantly evolving. But here are some countries that participated in with some or the other means-

Countries supporting Ukraine

The European countries of NATO – Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States have come out in full support of Ukraine. The US and UK have emerged as the biggest supporters of Ukraine since the beginning of its tensions with Russia.

Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada are also supporting Ukraine and have announced additional sanctions on Russia after it began the invasion of Ukraine.

Countries supporting Russia

The strongest backing for Russia will come from China, which has already stated that NATO is acting arbitrarily in Ukraine. Russia has backed its Asian neighbour ever since the West changed its stance and turned against China.

Cuba, a close ally of Russia, has sharply criticized the US for imposing the progressive expansion of NATO towards the Russian borders and called for a diplomatic solution to preserve international peace.

Due to the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) pact signed by the six nations, it is assumed that Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, all of which were formerly members of the Soviet Union, will defend Russia. This implies that these nations will regard an attack on Russia as an attack on themselves.

What is the Indian stand on Russian-Ukrainian War?

India is one of the most strategically significant nations in Asia, and while having close links to both Russia and the West, it is frequently regarded as neutral and non-aligned.

India hasn’t appeared to take a side in the Russia-Ukraine dispute, but that doesn’t mean its voice for world peace and security has been muted. Foreign Affairs Minister Jaishankar recently emphasised in France that “diplomacy” was the only path forward and that no irrational use of force could result in a peaceful resolution.
