The origins of the Day can be found in the first decades of the 20th century. Joyce Hall, the company’s founder, suggested the idea of designating a day to celebrate friendships in 1930. However, the concept did not become well known until Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho founded the World Friendship Crusade in Paraguay in 1958. The group pushed many nations to adopt the idea of a Friendship Day and promoted the idea of international friendship.
