Liquor Prices-Since the Uttar Pradesh government will introduce a new excise policy for the years 2023–2024 to raise Rs 45,000 crore in income from the liquor business, alcohol will become more expensive in Uttar Pradesh as of right now.
The state cabinet meeting earlier in January, presided by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved the policy.
The state has increased the licence price for model shops, beer, “bhang,” and foreign spirits by 10% under the new policy.
Licensing fees were raised with the specific category of establishments within a 5-kilometre radius of these regions in mind.
The requirements of the excise policy will result in a five to ten Rupees price increase for domestic, English, and premium beer and spirits brands.
Hike in Liquor Prices-A 200 ml packet of country spirits with a 25% strength would cost Rs 55 instead of Rs 50 as of April 1.
Whereas the cost of 200 ML packages of spirits with a 36.5% alcohol content would rise from Rs 65 to Rs 70, and the cost of 200 ML packets with a 42.8% alcohol content will rise from Rs 75 to Rs 80.
The new policy will result in price increases of Rs. 5 to Rs. 7 for country spirits, English 10, and beer.
Also, the cost of prominent English brands will rise by Rs. 10, and the cost of beer would rise by Rs. 5 to Rs. In addition, the new policy has left the opening and closing hours of country and English spirits, beer shops, and model shops untouched. But, for unique occasions, the period of sale may be extended with the government’s previous approval.
The model shop’s licence charge has gone up from two lakhs to three lakhs.
Also, under the new guideline, everyone must sell 10% more alcohol throughout the upcoming fiscal year.
In the current financial year, the state government has fixed the profit of collecting revenue of about 45 thousand crore rupees from the excise department.
The new profit is five thousand crore more than the profit of the current financial year. The increase in license fee was also increased by one lakh.
