Mumbai Indians added to their illustrious franchise history by winning the first Women’s Premier League champions(WPL) with a seven-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals in the final.
Earlier in the day, Meg Lanning of the Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bat first. Issy Wong’s tournament fantasy continued when he defeated Shefali Verma, Alice Capey, and Jemimah Rodrigues on the power play.
DC was unable to recover from their disastrous start, finishing 79-9. Despite the fact that wickets were falling all around her, Meg Lanning was dismissed for 35 in 29 after a run-out due to a mix-up with fellow Australian Jeff Jonassen.

The DC 11th wicket pair stunned the world with a spectacular 52-run stand to help the Caps post a total of 131, with Shikha Pandey striking 27 in 17 balls and Radha Yadav hitting a 12-ball 27. Hayley Matthews was the highlight of the Mumbai bowlers, taking three wickets while surrendering only five runs in four overs.

Mumbai’s chase got off to a shaky start, as openers Yastika Bhatia and Matthews both fell in the opening over. Following that, the DC bowling team slowed MI’s score rate, putting pressure on Nat Scivier Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur.

The pair guaranteed that MI would not suffer any further setbacks in the chase by putting on a 72-run partnership. But, Harmanpreet was run-out in a crucial match after scoring 37 runs in 39 balls to bring the game back into balance.

Nat Sciver retained her cool and reached her half-century, while Amelie Kerr continued her great form with the bat, smashing Jonassen for two boundaries in the 19th over to leave MI needing just 5 runs in the last over. Nat Sciver retained her cool to easily lead MI over the line in the final over.
