A transgender tea OR Transgender Chai wala shop was recently established and officially opened on March 10 at the Guwahati railway station in an effort to strengthen the country’s transgender community.
The Northeast Frontier Railway took the initiative to start the “Trans tea booth,” which will be the first of its type in the country. A senior railway official said that the All Assam Transgender Association actively contributed to making it feasible.

A “Trans Tea Stall” or Transgender Chai wala debuted on Friday at the Guwahati Train station in Assam as part of a novel Northeast Frontier Railway initiative.

In the presence of Swati Bidhan Baruah, Associate Vice Chairman of the Transgender Welfare Board of Assam, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway Anshul Gupta officially opened the “Trans Tea Booth” on Friday at Guwahati Train Station, according to Sabyasachi De, CPRO of NF Railway.

According to reports, the effort is a part of the centre’s “Support for Marginalized People for Livelihood and Business” programme for transgender persons. Also, a separate plan called Comprehensive Rehabilitation for the Welfare of Transgender Persons is included in this.

The NF Railway plans to build up other Trans tea shops in a number of the area’s other train stations. The public is praising this action. On an Instagram photo about it, one user remarked, “Trans is transforming, a nice move was taken by Indian Railways.”

During an interview with ABP, Swati Bidhan Baruah said that the transgender community will learn from this experience and wished for its members to pursue entrepreneurship.
“Over the past 25 years, we have been devoted to improving the local area. We now want the community to educate itself and learn entrepreneurship, “added Baruah.
The “Trans Tea Stand,” according to Baruah, would aid in treating the community as an integral part of society.
Baruah said, “We opened the tea stand after receiving help from the NF Railways authorities, which will create an opportunity to teach entrepreneurship and empower the community so that there is no discrimination against them.

Way forward

Include everyone, no matter their gender, sexual orientation, race, or religion. We are all human beings and we are part of society.”
