Mahul Koli is a fishing community in Mumbai, India’s eastern suburbs. Traditional fishermen who have been living in the area for many generations and depend on fishing make up the Mahul Koli population.

Due to local urban growth and pollution, the Mahul Koli neighbourhood has recently had to deal with a number of issues. High pollution levels brought on by the development of an oil refinery nearby have affected the community’s health.

Additionally, the government has declared the region a “no development zone,” making it challenging for the locals to access necessities like water and power.

Notwithstanding these difficulties, the Mahul Koli community maintains the celebration of its traditions and festivals and has a rich cultural legacy. The town observes a number of events throughout the year, including the well-known Koli Festival, which is joyfully and enthusiastically observed. The community gathers for this event to share their culture and customs with others and to perform traditional dance and music.
