Swiggy has drawn criticism

Due to their “Holi egg” billboard commercials, Swiggy has drawn criticism. “Omelette; Sunny side-up; Kisi ke sarr par. #BuraMatKhelo,” the billboards with eggs read. Obtaining Holi supplies on Instamart encourages egg eating rather than throwing away food by cracking eggs on people’s heads during the Holi celebration.

The well-known Indian food delivery app chose to remove the billboards in the Delhi-NCR area after facing outcry on social media, including the hashtag #HinduPhobicSwiggy. But, Swiggy hasn’t released a formal remark on the subject.

Critic and Supporter

Opponents have charged Swiggy with spreading a biased message about Hindu holidays and misrepresenting Holi, including ISKCON Vice-President Radharaman Das and former president of the Kutch Sant Samaj, All India Sadhu Samaj. Sadhvi Prachi, the leader of the VHP, questioned why Swiggy didn’t spread similar messages around Christmas or Eid.

Nonetheless, some commenters defended the advertising, claiming it sent a positive message discouraging food waste. They countered that Swiggy was offering unique Holi needs on their app and that the advertisement did not deter people from celebrating Holi with colour.
