After defeating Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia 5-3 in the championship match in Rabat, Morocco, Real Madrid has won the Club World Cup for a record-extending sixth time.
Vinicius Junior scores twice to assist Karim Benzema to lead Real Madrid to a record-extending fifth Club World Cup title.
Vinicius Junior and Fede Valverde struck twice each, while Karim Benzema also scored on his return from injury in Madrid’s spectacular victory over their Saudi Arabian opponents.
“Vinicius has been improving since last season just as the team has also grown. We won the Champions League and now the world title, and Vinicius has grown along the way,” said Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Madrid won the European Super Cup in August, and their decisive victory in Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium gave them their second trophy of the year.
It also offered a much-needed break from their La Liga season, in which they now trail rival Barcelona by eight points and were defeated by Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final in January.
Scorecard of Real Madrid
Madrid last won the tournament in 2018. It also lifted the trophy in 2014, 2016 and 2017.
Madrid also won three Intercontinental Cups in 1960, 1998 and 2002 — a match between European and South American champions, which merged with the Club World Cup in 2005.
