As part of India’s G20 chairmanship between December 1, 2022, and November 30, 2023, the city is scheduled to host a four-day summit of the leaders of the G20 member nations in August 2023. Keshav Maurya, the deputy chief minister, tweeted this information.

“Due to the efforts of the state government the city of Kashi is getting a new recognition in the world,” deputy CM Maurya tweeted on Wednesday. “Varanasi will host a four-day conference of the heads of nations of G20 member countries in August 2023,”.

“Several grand events will take place on the Kashi Vishwanath Dham campus, auditorium of Banaras Hindu University, Trade Facilitation Centre and many other places,”.

S Jaishankar, during his stay in the city on December 11, had said that the programmes regarding G20 are to be held in 55 cities across the country and an event is also proposed in Kashi.

After India recently assumed the G20 presidency from Indonesia, people in Kashi — the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi — had started discussing the possibility of mega events of G20 to be held in Kashi. Before the Varanasi event, Lucknow will host the ‘Digital Economy Working Group Meeting’ between February 13 and 15.

A key element of India’s G20 presidency will be taking the organisation closer to the public and making it truly a ‘People’s G20’. To realize this, citizen engagement and large-scale public participation through various ‘Jan Bhagidari’ activities are planned throughout the year.

Drawing inspiration from its G20 presidency theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, India will host over 200 meetings across the country and would have the opportunity to offer G20 delegates and guests a glimpse of India’s rich cultural heritage and provide them with a unique Indian experience.
