Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary is notified as to the 52nd tiger reserve on 16th May 2022. This is Rajasthan’s fourth tiger reserve after Ranthambore, Sariska, and Mukundra. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) had given in-principle approval to make Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary and adjoining areas as tiger reserves on 5th July last year.

India is the land of a total of 80% tiger population in the world.  According to the “Status of Tigers in India” report released in 2019, there are 2,967 tigers in 20 states across the country.

The Tiger reserve is notified by the State Government as per provision of the Wildlife (Protection) Act,1972 on advice of the National Tiger Conservation Authority(NTCA).

NATIONAL TIGER CONSERVATION AUTHORITY

National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. It was constituted under enabling provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, as amended in 2006, for strengthening tiger conservation, as per its powers and functions. It was established in 2005 following the recommendations of the Tiger Task Force.

Other Wild Animals- Indian wolf, leopard, striped hyena, sloth bear, golden jackal, chinkara, nilgai, and fox.

Importance

Ramgarh Vishdhari tiger reserve will serves as the tiger corridor between Ranthambore Tiger reserve and Mukundra Hills tiger reserve.

The floristic diversity of this new tiger reserve makes it an important area for research and development. Historical and cultural sites like Bhimlat, and Ramgarh palace would encourage eco-tourism and provide employment opportunities to local communities and tribes.

Because this is such a limited area, the population will almost certainly never be very high. However, because it is a critical location for tiger connection, the conservation activities and resources put there today will assist the tiger population.
