History

Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is a professional kabaddi league in India, based on the format of the Indian Premier League T20 cricket tournament. It is an initiative of Mashal Sports. Pro Kabaddi is now the biggest sports league in India, with 94% viewership in India and 82% from the world. The Pro Kabaddi League was founded in 2014 with the inaugural 2014 edition of the tournament being played between eight franchises representing eight Indian cities respectively.  Before the fifth season, four new teams, namely Haryana Steelers, Gujarat Giants, UP Yoddha and Tamil Thalaivas joined the tournament.

This competition has revolutionized kabaddi. The sport was losing its popularity but PKL has revived it globally. Earlier, the Indian players dominated the Pro Kabaddi League, but of late, players from other nations have also performed brilliantly in PKL. Many overseas players are part of PKL 2022-23.

PKL 2022 Format

The organizers have not changed the format of PKL for the 2022-23 season. In 2022 each team will play two matches against the 11 other teams.

The playoffs format has not been revealed yet, but like in 2022, the top six teams of the Pro Kabaddi 2022 points table should go through to the next round, where one team will emerge as the champions.
