According to the World Athletics, Tokyo Olympics gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra of India was the most written about track and field athlete in 2022, displacing the Jamaican legend Usain Bolt from the top lists. The data collated by media analysis company Unicepta was cited by World Athletics, the global governing body for athletics.
The winner of the men’s javelin event at the Tokyo Olympics, Neeraj Chopra, finished first with 812 articles, ahead of the Jamaican women’s sprint quartet of Elaine Thompson-Herah (751 articles), Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce (698 articles), and Shericka Jackson (201) (679 articles). With 574 references, Usain Bolt, the male sprinter who holds the 100- and 200-meter world records, is listed fourth. The Jamaican, who is now retired, has previously ranked first on the annual list of athletes who receive the greatest media attention.
Neeraj Chopra achievements
Neeraj Chopra had a very successful 2022. He won the silver medal at the World Athletic Championships 2022 in Eugene, Oregon, becoming only the second Indian to win a world medal after Anju Bobby George’s bronze in the women’s long jump in 2003.
Neeraj Chopra also became the first athlete from India to win the Diamond League final this year.
The javelin star’s personal best of 89.94m, the current national record, also came this year at the Stockholm Diamond League.
