A little 10-year-old champion skater from Worli, Rhythm Mamania, has become one of the youngest Indian mountaineers to summit the Everest Base Camp (EBC) in the Himalayan ranges in Nepal. She has joined young Indian climbers to climb the base camp. Rhythm has achieved a rare feat by completing the climb to the base camp at an altitude of 5,364 meters in 11 days.
Rhythm Mamania is a fifth grader at MET Rishikul Vidyalaya in Bandra. Her parents Hershel and Urmi were also with her during this adventure. It was a month of hiking. The base camp trek was 11 days long. Rhythm climbing was not easy. During the base camp trek, Rhythm would run for eight to nine hours a day in different weather conditions. There were frequent hailstorms, blizzards, and even snowstorms. The temperature was minus 10 degrees Celsius. Then, walking wisely, she set a record.
Rhythm has loved mountaineering since the age of five and her first long 21 km trek was Dudhsagar on the Goa-Karnataka border. Since then, she has climbed some peaks in the Sahyadri range like Mahurli, Sondai, Karnala and Lohgad.
