Kalavanti Durg is a 2,250-foot (686-meter) high mountain in the Western Ghats, near the Prabalgad fort in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. It is the most dangerous stronghold on the planet. It has steep slopes, narrow rock-cut steps, and no support. According to folklore, the Kalavantin Durg was built in honor of Queen Kalavantin. Due to its perilous nature and the bird’s eye perspective of the immense grandeur that awaits atop, Kalavantin Fort is known as the ‘Climb to Heaven’.

How to reach– From ThakurWadi village, one must hike 3 kilometres to reach Kalavathi Fort. The Prabalmachi settlement is about 2 kilometres from Thakurbari. From here, the route splits into two directions. The shorter path leads to Kalavanti Durg, while the long path leads to Prabalgad Fort. The path to Kalavanthi Durg has a 60-degree inclination and rock-cut stairs up to 2 feet high.
